One would have to be a fool to overlook the importance of using positive thinking for you rather than knowing negative thinking to work against you. In recent years, research in psychopharmacology (精神藥理學(xué)) has proved what many people have known over the centuries: a positive attitude is good for you, good for your health, good for your wealth, good for everything.

Researchers have found that a positive attitude produces a specific chemical reaction which makes people feel better, while negative thinking results in a reduction of hormone(荷爾蒙) and shuts down the immune system. This leads to illness and depression. Positive thoughts will make you feel better. Even if you must begin by forcing yourself to be positive, it will become contagious and the positive thoughts will produce nice little chemicals and good feelings which will reinforce the positive thoughts.

For example, if you force yourself to smile or laugh, even when you don�餿 feel like smiling or laughing, if you keep at it for a few minutes, you will soon feel like it. Feelings can make thoughts alive, and thoughts can do it, too. Control your thoughts and you can control your feelings. Positive thinking is important in all aspects of our lives. There is probably no single factor more important in determining your success in achieving your career purposes than your own attitude.

It�餾 often been said that in the land of the blind, the one�瞖yed man is king. And in the office of militant(好戰(zhàn)的) negativism, the positive workers shine like gold. You cannot control external events, but you can learn to control your reaction to those events and thereby have a positive attitude and be happy. This important key to success is totally within your control. Use it.

Paracutin was born in Mexico in February, 1943. At the end of one week Paracutin was 500 feet high, and it is now over 9,000 feet high. Today Paracutin is asleep. What is Paracutin? It was the first volcano (火山) in the world that was seen from its birth right up to the present day. On February 20, 1943, a peasant and his wife set out to work in their corn fields from the Mexican village of Paracutin. They were surprised to find the earth warm under their feet. Suddenly they heard noises deep in the earth and a small hole appeared in their field. In the afternoon there was a sudden loud noise and stones were thrown high in the air.The peasants ran from the field and turned to watch. They saw the birth of a volcano.

Large quantities of stone and lava (熔巖) broke out and a little hill began to form. By evening this hill was 100 feet high and hot ashes were falling on the village. At night the strong light of the hot lava lit up the countryside. The trees near the village were killed and the villagers had to leave their houses. When the village was destroyed, its name was given to the volcano. The news quickly reached Mexico City, far to the east. Many people came to watch the scene. The volcano grew and grew for ten years and hundreds of square miles of forest were destroyed. Then Paracutin went to sleep.

Zhang hua is 25 years old.He helped his neighour out of a fire.

On 10th May, Zhang hua was at home alone. Suddenly he heard someone shouting “Fire!Fire!”. He ran outside. He saw a lot of smoke from next door. He went in and saw his neighour, the 79�瞴ear�瞣ld Mrs. Sun, in the kitchen. She could not get out because she hurt her leg. Anything could happen to her at that moment.

Zhang hua quickly ran back to his flat and poured water over his jacket. Then he rushed into Mrs. Sun�� s kitchen to save her. There was a lot of smoke and the fire was very hot. He was not afraid. He put out the fire with a blanket and helped Mrs. Sun out.

The fire burnt Zhang hua�餾 neck,arms and face. He was in hospital for two months.Many people visited him and brought him flowers and presents.“What a brave young man!” they said.

Zhang hua was glad that he helped Mrs. Sun. “We should help each other,” he said.
